Things have calmed down a little now and I’m pleased to be able to come back to posting. In the past month there’s been a couple of nice results, the settling of the Next Wolves Manager being one, where as the Next England Manager resulted in a Scratch trade.
I’ve been doing a lot of betting on the Snooker these past weeks and, although at the moment my only remaining bet is on Ali Carter to win outright.
I’ve also been doing a lot of work on my international football ratings ahead of Euro 2012 and I’m confident that they will prove their worth at the international level once again this summer.
Thought it was about time I posted if only just to let you know that I am still intent on betting it all.
Having failed in my first 2 bets I still have a very large bank and will now be concentrating on summer sports while still including any soccer bets I believe may be value.
Montpellier are about to play at Toulouse and a win there would be a huge step towards the championship but I am holding fire for the time being partly cos they were very poor at Lorient and cos Toulouse have a very good home record.
I am also keeping an eye out on events in the kent v yorks county cricket div 2 game-a win for kent would be very significant I believe.
It looks as if this seasons formula 1 could be the most intriguing for betting purposes for many, many years and I will def. be trying to take advantage.
Then of course theres the Euro championships where I will be concentrating on the Top Goal-scorer market…
I am actually a very big fan of cross-sport antepost accas as they give you an interest in all manner of events on pretty much any day of the week during the summer.
Its still all to play for…as Ive explained to the nearest thing I have to a bank manager!
Sorry about the lack of posts recently. sometimes life overtakes you.
I intend to be back in full flow for the snooker world championships later this month, in the meantime thanks to UpTheAnte for posting his Antepost Adventures
Stan James appear to be not only offering a stand-out 10-3 on Montpellier to win Ligue 1 but are also offering each-way terms.
Now I suspect that this is a mistake.I am banned from them but you may be able to get small amounts on and they may honour it.
I fully believe that Montpellier are GREAT value at this price-in fact I am about to bet them at BetVics and Betfreds 5-2 .They were unlucky not to win in Paris a few weeks ago and its almost certainly due to the bookies liabilities on PSG that there is such a price descrepency between the top 2 when they are level on points at this stage.
I would suggest an each -way treble with Hants for county championship div2(cricket) and Hamilton/Button for the formula 1 drivers championship,so 2 trebles in fact.
However a straight e/w single is also good…if you can get on.
So its after 4pm and Im in the small, friendly, Walkabout in Covent Garden watching the soccer scores on Sky, or I was until half-time.
Whereupon I turned towards the bar so as to peruse the papers and check out the new barmaids and, finding one of those activities to my liking, was still facing the ”wrong” way when the whole bar erupted!!
Now I can guarantee that nothing exciting has happened at that particular walkie since Jamie Affros last appearance and before then not since its heyday of the late 90s when even Monday nights were like being at a very, very good party..thus I quickly summised that a most popular goal had been scored…but I couldnt for the life of me work out who could have garnered such support.
And then a dozen or so people started chanting ”Wigan,Wigan,Wigan”.
And there you have it!If you have just told people on a blog that a particular team are value at 1/5 for relegation and they have a match the next day at a team like Liverpool, who lost 2-1 at home to relegation-bound Blackpool the previous season,DONT watch the scores in a crowded bar.The downside is too great.
Wigan are now 2/5 with Coral.Nottingham Forests last gasp goal v Hammers rendered the Wigan score much more palatable in the event.
Just time to let you know that Willie Hill has Wolves at Evens to be bottom of the Prem.
I was so surprised that I phoned up to confirm this price(seeing as they have QPR and Wigan at 11-8!!).
It was duly confirmed and if its still available I suggest a small wager is in order.Just dont watch Sky Soccer Saturday in the Walkabout Covent Garden for the rest of the season, innit!(Though in the case of Wolves youmight just be ok).
Come on Dortmund,I need a win!!
Looking at the upcoming fixtures I find I really should hedge my Dortmund bet with 7/4 Bayern Munich.
Its odds-on that,by the time they play at Dortmund, the gap will be 3 points or even 2 points and youd have to fancy free-scoring Bayern to get a result.
And,with Coral offering this stand-out 7/4 together with a stand-out 8-1 Brighton for promotion AND the best price on Blades for promotion a value bet is there for the taking.(Oh and Ive just seen that Coral are also best price on Wigan for relegation!-Thank you Coral.)
Thus my 3rd bet will be:
Coral
Wigan to be rel. 1-5 Brighton to be prom. 8-1
Sheff Utd for prom. 8-11
Shrews for prom. 1-2
B Munich to win bundesliga 7-4
hmmm,i think I shall have 5% of my bank on this leaving me with 83%.
I think I can definitely recommend that yo place a small wager on this yourselves although,of course, you really would need Bayern to win tomorrow .
Good Luck
After a 26 minute phonecall I finally managed to get Vic to take my bet on shrews…and the price is now 1/2.
However,Gills can be had at 8s for promotion which I think is a good price since after tonight they have easier games than Oxford…and they could even catch Crawley or Cheltenham.
Also,if they do reach the play-offs,Id rather be on them than Southend or Cheltenham…
Just seen that BetVictor are 4/5 for Shrewsbury to be promoted.
Over the course of a season you will find,at most,20 value prices in antepost markets.
This is one of them.
If anyone wishes to have a bet you have a couple of hours(its now 2.30pm)before I attempt to place um,a ”significant” sum on them.
Good Luck
Yesterday I broke even on the day’s racing, so I thought on this Gold Cup day, I would share with you my choices for the bookies benevolent fund.
1.30 – Hisaabaat Each way
205 – Uni Ace Each Way
240 – Boston Bob
320 – Kauto Star
320 – Midnight Chase Each Way
400 – Roulex Cool
Good luck to anyone having a punt!
It’s Cheltenham Festival week and we’ve just put to bed the second day of the Festival, and it’s not been great for me so far. That doesn’t surprise me, but it did get me thinking, that isn’t it strange that for this week I fully expect to make a loss, past years tell me that I make a loss, and yet, on Monday night I was like a kid trying to sleep on Christmas Eve.
If I were a “professional punter” or even a casual nags trader then no doubt I would stick to the golden rules of value and edges, but I’m not, I tend to stay away from the nags for most of the year, with the exceptions of this week, the National, a couple of other large meetings and when I go racing myself of course. I expect that this is why it doesn’t bother me that I’m down 65% over the past two days and despite a number of places, I’m yet to register a winner for the week.
Yes I’m disappointed that I’ve not had a winner, but not that I’ve lost money on it. There is no chasing, no upping stakes desperately trying to recover. I’m just enjoying the race meeting and for this one week of the year, happy to be a mug punter and enjoy the spectacle.
